Bunzl plc is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor.

The role will be part of the Global Internal Audit team, which is responsible for providing assurance over the financial & operational control environment of the Bunzl Group to the Audit Committee.

The appointee will have the opportunity of joining a FTSE50 international group of companies, with the remit of managing a variety of audits, with substantial responsibility and challenges. Based in London, the role will require international travel (about 40% of the time).

Duties and Responsibilities

• Carrying out the audits of businesses effectively and efficiently in accordance with the approach established by the Senior Internal Audit Manager and Head of Internal Audit and Risk.
• Preparing a plan for the audit of a specific business or function which ensures the controls over all key aspects of the business are reviewed.
• Preparing working papers supporting the conclusions reached by the auditor for each area of the business audited.
• Presenting the findings of the work to senior management of the operating company being audited by means of oral presentation and discussion.
• Presenting the outcome of the audit in an audit report setting out weaknesses in internal control and suggested improvements.
• Performing follow-up visits and report on action taken by management to address the points identified.
• Support the preparation of Audit Committee papers and other reports as required.

Required Skills and Experience

• ACA / ACCA qualified;
• University graduate in a recognised and relevant degree subject, minimum of a 2:1.
• External audit experience (ideally with one of the Big 4);
• Internal audit experience – a significant asset;
• Fluent written and spoken English. Fluency in an additional language advantageous (Spanish, Portuguese, French, Germany, Dutch, Mandarin);
• Data analytics experience a plus (PowerBI);
• Highly organised, keen attention to detail;
• Flexibility to travel extensively (i.e. no personal or relevant visa restrictions) in the UK, Europe, South America & Australasia.
• Comfortable taking responsibility for audits from the planning phase through to reports of the highest quality being issued;
• Able to communicate effectively (all audit reports are distributed and read by the Board);
• Able to deal with ambiguity and complexity;
• Desire and ability to understand ways of working / processes and the curiosity to challenge and improve ways of working;
• Able to influence and partner senior stakeholders to agree and drive actions to completion;
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, energetic and has excellent collaboration and influencing skills in order to be able to demonstrate personal credibility to the business.

Description

To support establishment of an Internal Audit function within the UK covering both PHS Group and Bidvest Noonan across the UK, Spain and Ireland. The Internal Audit function is responsible for the assessment of the systems of processes and controls in place within each business coupled with the identification of weaknesses and/or shortcomings in the control environments that impact the financial, operational, compliance, risk and regulatory issues faced by the businesses.

Within the above ambit, responsibilities will include:

• Support in delivery of annual Internal Audit Plan using an integrated risk-based approach
• Involved/ own planning, executing and finalizing audit engagements in accordance with the Internal Auditing Standards.
• Reporting findings in writing (post discussions), with the appropriate level of management for the area under audit. Management will provide remediation plans to mitigate the risks associated with the identified audit findings.
• Supporting IA Manager and HIA in preparing Internal Audit Summary templates and schedules, as deemed necessary, in accordance guidance, for inclusion in the quarterly Divisional and/or Group Audit Committee meetings.
• Tracking and follow-up of the remediation effort of the audit findings.
• Managing relationships and interaction with directors and line management with regard to the planning, executing and finalizing audit engagement and remediation action.
• Driving of audit innovation in the digital assurance space using ALICE as well as data analytics.
• Adhering to the Group’s Internal Audit Charter.
• Attending the necessary training to maintain continuing professional development hours.

Qualification

Chartered Accountant (assuming min 3 years’ experience as part of articles)
