Job purpose

Audit Manager is a leadership role assisting the Heads of Audit in delivering a recognised BBC centre of excellence in the provision of independent, impartial advice and assurance on business risks and controls.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

• Take a primary role in the timely delivery of a portfolio of audit assignments, to be carried out using a team of internal Senior Auditor resource and resource provided through the co-source internal audit providers.
• Focus on the ongoing review of core internal controls but will also include ad-hoc specialist reviews.
• Negotiate with, and influence, senior management in the development of appropriate controls responses.
• Drive audit delivery from planning, through fieldwork to reporting, and obtaining buy-in from key stakeholders.
• Maintain knowledge of BBC strategy, organisational development and risks to help inform approach and activity.
• Act as a principled and respected business partner in providing ad hoc and consultative controls advice to the business.
• Assist with departmental deliverables, including audit committee reporting, follow-up of audit actions and resource planning.
• Stay informed of changes in corporate governance and auditing best practice.
• Support the development of the forward audit plan in conjunction with the Heads of Audit.
• Contribute to the development of the population of skilled in-house Senior Auditors.
• Design and implement departmental guidelines, processes, systems and working practices in conjunction with the Heads of Audit. This will require the development of new ways of working alongside the co-source internal audit partner.
• Ensure that sound audit methodology and high quality reporting are firmly embedded throughout the department.

Knowledge, skills, training and experience

Essential

• Ability to deliver a range of audit activity under high quality standards and demanding deadlines in a complex environment.
• Ability to negotiate and work alongside a range of contacts including senior management, and the motivation and energy to actively promote control improvements.
• Substantial internal auditing or similar relevant experience, including the management of other professionals in the execution of a risk based assurance and/or advisory function.
• Experience working in or with organisations of a comparable size or complexity to the BBC.
• Management of resource to deliver audit assignment.

Desirable

• Applicants are expected to have at least one of the following professional qualifications as appropriate to the role:
  • Qualified Accountant through a recognised professional body (e.g. ACA, ACCA, ACMA)
  • Chartered Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (UK)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor
• Direct experience of internal audit is essential.
• It would be a significant advantage to have additional, substantial, experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Data Analytics;
  • Internal Consulting;
  • IT Audit;
  • Project Audit;
  • Royalties and Contract auditing;
  • Value for Money audit; or
  • Broadcast/ Production Management or auditing
