This role will be based in our Charlotte, NC office and will report directly to the Group Head of IT Audit and dotting into the Sr. Director of Global Audit Services – North America. Working closely with the North America senior leadership teams, this role will be responsible for developing and delivering the IT audit plan for North America and providing support and thought leadership on IT risks and controls. Overnight travel is anticipated to be 15-20%.

Job Summary

Responsibilities

Develop and deliver the North American IT audit and assurance strategy and risk based internal audit plan.
Develop and maintain the North America IT audit universe.
Plan and deliver IT internal audits including reviews of cybersecurity, existing production systems, software development lifecycle, technology infrastructure and specialized or emerging technologies including AI.
Draft high-quality internal audit reports with concise and practical recommendations.
Develop strong working relationships with the management teams and stakeholders.
Provide thought leadership in the areas of cybersecurity risk, IT general controls, and assurance over significant IT change.
Continuous improvement of internal audit methodology.

Skills and capabilities

Proactive self-starter with the ability to lead, work independently and engage with teams at all levels in the organization.
Demonstrated ability to think holistically about IT risks in the context of overall business risks.
Technically competent and confident in delivering information security audits as well as audits across the technology stack, for example at the infrastructure, network and application layer. SAP experience a plus.
Strong analytical skills, with strong risk awareness and understanding of processes and controls. Data analytics experience beneficial.
Commercially competent and ambitious.
Ability to translate and communicate technical or complex ideas in a simple and concise manner.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, with the ability to influence at all levels, as is the ability to function effectively in teams.

Education and experience

CISA qualified. Other qualifications related to IT audit and security such as CISSP, CRISC beneficial.
Minimum 8+ years of IT audit experience working within an internal audit department for large organisations and/or IT assurance in a major accounting firm.
Strong knowledge of Internal Auditing Standards, PCAOB Standards, SOX, COSO, and referential frameworks such as COBIT, NIST, ITIL, etc.
Good working knowledge of SAP is desirable.
Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
Experience in a consumer-focused business would be advantageous. Fortune 500 experience preferred.
Experience in delivering integrated audits desirable.
Excellent PC Skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, Electronic audit work papers, etc.).

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

To deliver the audit and reporting activities associated with the annual Technology audit plan

To conduct risk based internal audits covering the operational and financial activities of the Wellcome Trust, its subsidiary Genome Research Limited and certain of its significant grant recipients based on the Annual Audit Plan as required

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Execute end to end audits Wellcome’s business activity, mainly in relation to IT, as determined by the Annual Audit Plan within agreed timescales and to a suitable level of quality.

Undertake assignments in a high-quality manner performing detailed planning, fieldwork, deriving preliminary audit findings and holding audit close discussions with senior management.

Identify and evaluate key risks in IT and develop recommendations for IT controls and practices.

Draft clear and concise audit findings.

Monitor and report on management’s progress in implementing internal audit recommendations using agreed dashboards / reporting mechanisms.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience working in internal audit, either in industry or in practice, with a focus on delivering IT audits.

•

Understanding and experience delivering IT audits in some of the following areas:

IT controls across change, access and development process aligned to the standards expected from Sarbanes-Oxley legislation

o

Investments services technology (e.g. Bloomberg/JP Morgan)

Audit Manager is a leadership role assisting the Heads of Audit in delivering a recognised BBC centre of excellence in the provision of independent, impartial advice and assurance on business risks and controls.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

Take a primary role in the timely delivery of a portfolio of audit assignments, to be carried out using a team of internal Senior Auditor resource and resource provided through the co-source internal audit providers.
Focus on the ongoing review of core internal controls but will also include ad-hoc specialist reviews.

Knowledge, skills, training and experience

Essential

Ability to deliver a range of audit activity under high quality standards and demanding deadlines in a complex environment.
Ability to negotiate and work alongside a range of contacts including senior management, and the motivation and energy to actively promote control improvements.
Substantial internal auditing or similar relevant experience, including the management of other professionals in the execution of a risk based assurance and/or advisory function.
Experience working in or with organisations of a comparable size or complexity to the BBC.
Management of resource to deliver audit assignment.

Desirable

Applicants are expected to have at least one of the following professional qualifications as appropriate to the role:
- Qualified Accountant through a recognised professional body (e.g. ACA, ACCA, ACMA)
- Chartered Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (UK)
- Certified Information Systems Auditor
Direct experience of internal audit is essential.

Overview/Background

The Group Internal Control Manager – Technology will contribute to the design, implementation, and oversight of the internal control framework. Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

IT General Control Framework;

• Contribute to the design of the Group’s internal control framework. Identify opportunities to increase efficiency and continuously improve the framework

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders across various regions

• Support with queries, identify knowledge gaps and provide training/ guidance

• Work closely with the business to ensure key controls are timely identified and embedded in the process, tested, and operating effectively
